Game 22 • Atlantic 10 Conference game
Date: Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 • Time: 2:00 pm (EST)
Location: Smith Center (5,000) • Washington, DC
Radio: WMET 1160 AM, WAGE 1200 AM, SIRIUS (Larry Michael)
TV: none
Series: GW leads, 39-23 (GW is 20-6 vs. DU at Smith Center)

GW hosts Duquesne today in the second regular-season meeting this year. The teams met Jan. 8 in Pittsburgh where GW came away with an 81-57 victory. Today's game is the 63rd meeting between the teams in a series dominated by the Colonials, 39-23. GW has won the last three meetings overall and the last four games against the Dukes at Smith Center. Duquesne's last victory at Smith Center was on Jan. 8, 2000 (94-89).

GW faces its second straight game against an opponent led by a player named Bryant. Last Wednesday it was Fordham's Bryant Dunston, today it's Duquesne's Bryant McAllister (15.7 ppg, 45 steals). Duquesne, which has A-10 victories over Dayton, La Salle and St. Bonaventure, come to Washington aiming to snap a four-game slide. Most recently, the Dukes dropped a 68-62 decision to Temple on Wednesday at the Palumbo Center. As a team, Duquesne leads the league in free throw percentage at .770 (288-374) and McAllister's .824 (84-102) is tops among individuals. The Dukes' sure-handed Martin Osimani also leads the A-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.07. GW is coming off an 80-70 victory over Fordham last Saturday at Smith Center to remain a perfect 5-0 against the Rams in Washington. GW is 8-2 at home this season while Duquesne is 2-9 away from the `Steel City.'

GW's 16-5 start is its best since the Colonials began the 1997-98 season with a 18-3 record under former coach Mike Jarvis.

GW Head Coach Karl Hobbs, 43, is in his fourth season at the helm of the Colonials program. Considered by many as one of the hot, up-and-coming head coaches in the country, the NABC recognized Hobbs' efforts by naming him the 2004 District 4 Coach of the Year. GW is his first head coaching position. Prior to coming to GW, Hobbs spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Connecticut which included the 1998-99 national championship season. He is credited with recruiting the likes of Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton and Emeka Okafor among others. He was hired by GW in June, 2001. Hobbs has recruited a total of 13 new players in his brief tenure at GW and enjoyed his most successful season as a head coach last year with an 18-12 record and a postseason N.I.T. appearance.

Hobbs orchestrated the two biggest wins of his head coaching career with this season's victories over then-#9 Michigan St. and then-#12 Maryland. Hobbs has a 5-2 record against Duquesne.

Next Game: GW embarks on a difficult two-game road trip beginning Wednesday (2/24) at Xavier in a 7:35 p.m. game followed by a Saturday noon game at Dayton. Both games will be televised on the A-10 TV Network and will air live in the Washington area on WMET 1160 AM, WAGE 1200 AM and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio as well as via www.GWsports.com.
