Basketball's J.R. Pinnock Wins Third A-10 Rookie Award

Feb. 22, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman J.R. Pinnock (McDonough, GA/Coastal Christian) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball, the league office has announced. It marks the third Atlantic 10 weekly award of his career.

A 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard, Pinnock shot 9-12 FGs and scored a game-high 19 points in GW's 86-63 win over Duquesne on Feb. 21 in Pittsburgh. He also had two blocks and three steals in that road victory. He hit all three of his shots in GW's thrilling 66-64 victory over Dayton Feb. 18 at Smith Center.

In November, Pinnock was named to the preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team by the league's head coaches.

Pinnock's stats for the week: two games, 27 points on 12-15 FGs (.800), 2-2 3Pt. FGs (1.00), 1-3 FTs (.333), eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals in 58 minutes.

One of the Colonials' impact freshmen, Pinnock has appeared in all 24 games and averaged 21.4 minutes per outing. He is second on the team in steals with 37 while averaging 8.6 points per game and is shooting .459 (79-172) from the field and .778 (35-45) from the line.

One of the first players off the bench, Pinnock's play has helped GW to a 10-3 conference record and ascension into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10's West Division. The top two teams in each division earn a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, Mar. 10-13, at Dayton, OH.

GW (16-8, 10-3 A-10) hosts Richmond (16-10, 8-5 A-10) in its final home game on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Smith Center.
