Feb. 25, 2013
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington men's basketball forward Kevin Larsen has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday morning. The freshman from Copenhagen, Denmark averaged 12.0 points on 50 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to help GW split its pair of conference games this past week.
The 6-foot-10 post player opened the week with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting to lead GW to a 68-60 victory over Fordham on Wednesday. He then totaled nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks at Saint Joseph's on Saturday.
Larsen has reached double figures in scoring in five of his last eight games, averaging 8.0 points on 49 percent shooting (26-53) during that span. For the season, Larsen is averaging 7.4 points on 50.3 percent shooting, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists while starting 23 of 25 games played.
Larsen is the second GW freshman to earn an A-10 Rookie of the Week award this season after Joe McDonald earned a share of the honor on Nov. 19 following a 21-point performance in a victory at Boston University on Nov. 17.
GW (12-13, 6-6 A-10) is currently in a four-way tie for eighth in the Atlantic 10 standings with four league games remaining. The Colonials make their second trip to Richmond, Va., in 11 days to visit the Richmond Spiders (16-11, 6-6 A-10) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on RaiseHigh.tv and broadcast live on FederalNewsRadio.com and 1050 AM.
