KANSAS CITY, MO -- George Washington University junior Maureece Rice has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 4 Second Team.
Rice is among 150 All-District selections who represent the finest players in the country. These 150 student-athletes are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2006-07 NCAA men's basketball season.
A 6-foot-1 combo guard, Rice leads the Colonials in scoring with 16.5 points per game and has converted the most three-pointers (53). He also is the Colonials' third-best free throw shooter at .724 (63-87).
Joining Rice on the All-District 4 Second Team are West Virginia's Frank Young, VMI's Reggie Williams, George Mason's Will Thomas and Old Dominion's Valdas Vasylius.
George Washington (18-8, 9-5 A-10) plays Charlotte (13-14, 6-8) Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Charlotte, NC. The game will be televised on ESPN2. The Colonials need a victory to secure one of the top four seeds--and first-round bye--in the A-10 Tournament, Mar. 7-10, in Atlantic City. The GW-Charlotte game can also be heard on Washington Post radio 107.7 FM and 1500 AM as well as on www.GWsports.com.
