Damian Hollis Wins Second A-10 Rookie of the Week Award

March 4, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Damian Hollis has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's basketball the league office announced Sunday. It marks Hollis' second A-10 weekly honor in the past three weeks. He also won the award for the week of Feb. 11-17.

Hollis averaged 15 points and shot better than 52 percent from the field as GW posted a 2-0 record last week. He scored his career high with 18 points and grabbed his career-high 12 rebounds in GW's 88-80 victory over Duquesne Saturday. It marked his first career double-double.

The 6-8 freshman guard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, preceeded that with 12 points in GW's 62-60 road victory over Charlotte Thursday.

Hollis' stats for the week: 2 games, 30 points on 12-23 FGs (.522), 4-7 3FGs (.571), 2-2 FTs (1.000), 16 rebounds (8 offensive, 8 defensive), 4 assists and 7 turnovers in 66 total minutes.

GW (20-8, 11-5 A-10) is the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and will face the winner of the #6 Saint Joseph's vs. #11 Temple game on Thursday at 9 p.m. at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. The Colonials have won five straight matching their longest winning streak this season.
