#10 George Washington (16-13, 6-10) at #7 Dayton (19-11, 8-8)
GW COACH: Karl Hobbs (Connecticut `85)
DAYTON COACH: Brian Gregory (Oakland `90) Tuesday's First-Round Game: Winners of four of its last seven, GW (16-13, 6-10 A-10) is the 10th seed in the 2010 A-10 Championship and faces the No. 7 seed, Dayton (19-11, 8-8) in the first round. In the teams' only other meeting this season, Dayton defeated GW, 66-51, on Jan. 20 at UD Arena. GW is 1-2 in A-10 Tournament games played at UD Arena (2003 & 2004). Tuesday's game is GW's first in the A-10 Tournament in nearly three years after finishing in 13th place each of the last two seasons. The last time the Colonials qualified for the A-10 Championship, they won it all by defeating Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis and Rhode Island to claim the 2007 A-10 title in its first year at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Tuesday's game marks the 26th meeting between the teams in a series that dates back to 1996. Dayton joined the A-10 in 1995-96. GW leads the all-time series, 14-11, but have dropped three of the last four meetings to the Flyers. GW is coming off a 70-57 loss to No. 20/16 Temple (26-5, 14-2) Saturday at the Liacouras Center. Junior Joseph Katuka was one of three Colonials in double figures with a team-high 13 points while Lasan Kromah added 12 points and Damian Hollis contributed 10 points. Dayton has lost two straight, most recently a 71-66 setback to Saint Louis (20-10, 11-5) Saturday at home. Chris Wright led the Flyers with 15 points and eight rebounds against SLU. The Flyers are 14-2 at home this season while GW is 7-7 on the road. GW's History in the A-10 Tournament: GW has an all-time record of 22-29 (.431) in the A-10 Tournament. The Colonials won their first championship in 2005 and again in 2007. GW has advanced to the championship final in two other years: in 1991 during former coach Mike Jarvis's first year at GW when the Colonials lost at Penn State, and in 1998--Jarvis's last year at GW--when GW fell to Xavier. A Closer Look at Dayton: The Flyers enter the A-10 Tournament as the #7 seed based on its 8-8 record in the A-10 under seventh-year head coach Brian Gregory. Dayton is led by Chris Wright's 14.3 ppg and 7.3 rebounds and Chris Johnson's 11.8 points per game. For the season, Dayton is shooting 44 percent from the field, averages 69.6 points a game, has a -0.4 turnover margin and is outrebounding opponents by more than six caroms a game. Dayton is 14-2 at home this season including wins over Creighton, Old Dominion and a 90-65 statement over Xavier.
