GW Men's Hoops' Creek Collects Final A-10 Player of the Week Award
Guard Led GW to 2-0 Week With Team-High 22.0 Points and 6.0 Rebounds
March 10, 2014
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW men's basketball guard Maurice Creek collected the final Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award of the season, the league announced on Monday.
Creek averaged 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds during a 2-0 week which ultimately helped GW finish tied for third in the final A-10 standings and earn the No. 3 seed in this week's A-10 Championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Colonials will open the tournament on Friday at 9 p.m. against either No. 6 seed Massachusetts or No. 11 Rhode Island.
The graduate student from Oxon Hill, Md., continued his hot shooting to cap A-10 play, following up a 22-point, four 3-pointer effort against George Mason last week by averaging 22.0 points while shooting 48 percent from the field and 67 percent behind the arc to lift GW to two victories and cap a 23-win regular season.
Creek hit 4-of-8 threes en route to 20 points and five rebounds in a massive 76-71 victory over second-place Saint Joseph's during Senior Night on Wednesday, then followed with a career-high six 3-pointers and team-highs of 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals in Saturday's 70-67 win at Fordham.
For the week, Creek made 10-of-15 shots from deep, increasing his season three-point total to 74, which equals the fourth-most in a season in GW program history.
It's the second Player of the Week honor of the season for Creek, who shared the weekly award on Dec. 9 with Massachusetts' Chaz Williams, marking the first time a GW player earned multiple Player of the Week awards in a season since Pops Mensah-Bonsu ('06) did so twice during the 2005-06 campaign.
