GW's All-Time NCAA Tournament Record: 4-8 (.333)

Saturday's Second-Round Game: Eighth-seeded GW takes on the tournament's overall No. 1 seed, Duke Blue Devils, in today's second-round game in the Atlanta Regional. It marks the second time GW has faced a No. 1 seed (GW lost to Michigan's "Fab Five" in the 1993 `Sweet 16'). GW's eighth seed is its highest ever.

• GW is coming off a thrilling 88-85 overtime win over #9-seed UNC Wilmington in the NCAA first-round game Thursday. That victory was GW's first in the NCAA Tournament in 12 years and snapped a five-game losing skid in NCAA Tournament games.

• The Colonials are tied, 13-13, in the all-time series with Duke although the teams have not met since 1994.

• Duke is coming off a 70-54 victory over #16 Southern Thursday to advance to today's game.

A Closer Look at the Second Round Match-up with Duke: GW is tied, 13-13, in the all-time series with Duke. Duke (31-3) earned an automatic bid by virtue of winning the ACC Tournament defeating Boston College (78-76) on March 12 on the same court for today's game. The Blue Devils enter today's game on an four-game winning streak and are led by national Player of the Year candidate, J.J. Redick, who averages 27.4 points per game and Shelden Williams' 10.3 rebounds per game.

• This marks the Colonials' third appearance in the NCAA Second Round. GW is 1-1 in second-round games with a victory over Southern in `93 and a loss to UConn in `94. In the 2005 NCAA Tournament, 12th-seeded GW lost to 5th-seeded Georgia Tech in the first round at Nashville. GW is 3-6 all-time in first-round games and 1-1 in second-round games. Before Thursday's victory over UNCW, the Colonials last first-round victory came in 1994 against UAB. George Washington's eighth seed is its highest seed ever in it's nine appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

• Duke's head team manager, Mike Jarvis II, was an assistant coach at GW from 1994-96 and again in 1998, under his father, Mike Sr.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu scored 10 points in Thursday's game, his first appearance in two weeks after suffering a slight tear in his left meniscus (knee cartilage) during the Feb. 22 La Salle game. He underwent successful arthroscopic surgery and missed the final three games of the regular season and the A-10 quarterfinal.

• GW and Duke were members of the Southern Conference from 1940 through 1953. GW won its first-ever championship by defeating Duke in the 1943 Southern Conference championship game.

Next Game: The winner of today's second-round game advances to the regional semifinal in Atlanta on Mar. 23. Today's winner will face the winner of the #4 LSU vs. #12 Texas A&M game. That game will be televised on CBS and aired live in the Washington area on WMET 1160 AM, WAGE 1200 AM as well as via www.GWsports.com.
