ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The Atlantic 10 Conference will hold its 2010, 2011 and 2012 men's basketball championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., it was announced today by commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. The Championship has been held there for the past three years.
"The decision to return to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City provides a great opportunity to grow our marquee event and truly brand the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship," states McGlade. "The facility is well-suited for this Championship, Atlantic City is a historic seashore resort, and the city has welcomed the Atlantic 10 and committed to host three more great years."
"Atlantic City has proven to be a great setting for our student-athletes and fans of the Atlantic 10," says George Washington athletic director Jack Kvancz, chair of the Atlantic 10 Athletic Directors. "It is a great destination place and I look forward to the Championship returning there for the next three years."
GW won the 2007 A-10 Tournament, the first year it was held in Atlantic City.
Beginning in 2010, a new format will be in place for the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship. The top 12 teams will qualify for the Championship; however the opening round games will be hosted on the campuses of teams seeded #5, #6, #7, and #8 on Tuesday, Mar. 9, 2010. The top four seeded teams (#1-#4) will again receive a bye into the quarterfinal round, scheduled for Friday, Mar. 12, 2010. Semifinal action will take place on Saturday, Mar. 13 with the Championship game held on Sunday, Mar. 14, and televised live at 1:00pm on CBS Sports for the first time in A-10 history.
Dates for the 2011 Championship are Mar. 8, 11-13, while the 2012 Championship will be held Mar. 6, 9-11.
"It's a testament to the Boardwalk Hall facilities, our hotels and destination amenities that the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will be calling Atlantic City home for another three years," says Jeffrey Vasser, president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. "We are, of course, thrilled to be working with the A-10 staff in order to make the next three years as successful as the past years have been."

Boardwalk Hall is the 10th facility to host the Atlantic 10 Championship. Other arenas which have hosted the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship are the Spectrum (Philadelphia), Pittsburgh Civic Arena, WVU Coliseum (Morgantown, W.Va.), Rutgers Athletic Center, Meadowlands Arena, The Palestra (Philadelphia), Philadelphia Civic Center, UD Arena (Dayton, Ohio), and U.S. Bank Arena (Cincinnati, Ohio).
