A-10 Announces GW Men's Hoops' League Pairings for 2014-15
Colonials Get Five Postseason Teams at Charles E. Smith Center as Part of 18-Game Slate
May 8, 2014
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW men's basketball will play eight conference games against teams that reached postseason play in 2014, including five postseason teams at the Charles E. Smith Center, as part of its expanded 18-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule for 2014-15.
GW will play home-and-home series against 2014 NCAA Tournament participant and A-10 Championship runner-up VCU, league newcomer and 2014 NIT contestant Davidson, as well as Revolutionary Rival George Mason, Duquesne and Richmond next season.
The Colonials will also host 2014 NCAA Elite Eight participant Dayton, 2014 NCAA Tournament at-large selections Massachusetts and Saint Louis, along with St. Bonaventure at the Smith Center in 2014-15.
GW's conference road slate will also include defending A-10 champion Saint Joseph's, as well as Fordham, La Salle and Rhode Island.
"To be the best, you have to play the best, and the Atlantic 10 is one of the premier leagues with some of the best teams in college basketball," said Coach Mike Lonergan, who led GW to a 14-1 home record en route to the second-most wins in program history (24) and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2013-14. "Next year's A-10 home schedule features high-profile opponents and rivalry games which will be attractive to our students, alumni and fans, and the entire league schedule will challenge and prepare our team for the A-10 Championship and a goal of another trip to the NCAA Tournament."
It will mark the first time the A-10 has used an 18-game schedule since 1990-91, and will culminate with the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn from March 11-15.
The complete 18-game 2014-15 conference schedule with dates, times and television details will be announced at a later date.
The news adds to previously announced information regarding GW men's basketball's 2014-15 schedule, with the Colonials slated to visit Virginia on Nov. 21 and compete in the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu from Dec. 22-25.
