GW Basketball Signs Noel Wilmore For 2005-06

May 10, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington basketball coach Karl Hobbs has announced that Noel Wilmore has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend GW next Fall. He becomes GW's third signee for 2005-06 joining Robert Diggs and Montrel McDonald.

Wilmore, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard from Chester High School in Chester, PA outside Philadelphia, averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 rebounds last season for the Clippers as a senior under coach Fred Pickett. The Clippers posted a combined record of 50-12 (.806) during Wilmore's two seasons on the varsity and won back-to-back Delaware Valley League District 1 championships. He also helped lead Chester to the PIAA championship his senior season.

"He should be an impact player from the start," said Pickett. "He is the best shooter to come through our program. He is a very athletic player who can play above the rim and stretch the defense. He's very intelligent and inquisitive, and I know coach Hobbs will make him an even better player. Noel is very excited about going to GW."

"Our program is very fortunate to acquire an athlete of Noel's stature," Hobbs said. "He's a dedicated student with a great deal of focus, and he's a terrific three-point shooter. His offensive skills will contribute significantly to the success of our upcoming season."

The team's co-captain, Wilmore was named First Team All-Southeast Pennsylvania by the Philadelphia Inquirer and All-Delco (Delaware County) by the Delaware County Times as well as Second Team All-State.

Wilmore shot a blistering .524 (194-370) from the field his senior season including .459 (85-185) from beyond the arc. He holds school single-game (7) and single-season (85) records for three-pointers made. He also converted nearly 82 percent from the free throw line last season.

GW (22-8, 11-5 A-10) was the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season West Division champion and A-10 tournament champion. The Colonials lost to Georgia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Albuquerque Regional on March 18 at Nashville.
