GW Basketball To Compete in 2006 John R. Wooden Classic

May 23, 2006

ANAHEIM, CA - Texas A&M is the fourth and final addition to the line-up for the 13th annual John R. Wooden Classic held at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. The Aggies will join George Washington, along with hometown teams UCLA and USC for the college basketball doubleheader on December 9, 2006. UCLA and Texas A&M face each other in Game One while USC and George Washington take to the court in Game Two.

The Aggies, anticipated to be among the top teams next season in the Big 12, will make their first appearance in the Wooden Classic. Led by head coach Billy Gillispie, last season they earned their first NCAA bid since 1987 and advanced to the second round of the tournament where they lost by one point to LSU, an eventual Final Four team. UCLA will make their 10th appearance at the Wooden Classic, fourth in a row, after a season that took them to the National Championship game. The Bruins are led by Pac-10 Coach of the Year Ben Howland. The tip-off will be at 12:30 PM (PST).

In Game Two, head coach Tim Floyd brings the USC Trojans back to the Wooden Classic for their fourth appearance. They face the regular-season Atlantic 10 Champion GW Colonials who, led by conference Coach of the Year Karl Hobbs, finished last season undefeated in the A-10. This is the first Wooden Classic appearance for the Colonials.

Priority order forms for the 2006 Wooden Classic are available online at www.woodenclassic.com. Tickets will go on sale to the public in October.
