Men's Basketball to Host Miami on Dec. 16
Colonials and Hurricanes set to meet in the Charles E. Smith Center
WASHINGTON -- For the sixth straight season, and for the second time in the Charles E. Smith Center during that span, the GW men's basketball team will face an ACC opponent as part of its non-conference schedule when the University of Miami comes to Foggy Bottom on December 16.
The Hurricanes are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and defeated the Colonials 72-64 in Coral Gables last season. GW, though, holds a 3-1 advantage in the series including a 71-63 victory in overtime at the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim, California, in 2013.
"We're excited to have a high-caliber program like Miami coming to the Smith Center this season," said head coach Maurice Joseph. "Having played and coached in some of the toughest arenas in the country, I know there are few that can match the intensity of the Smith Center when it's really rocking. I look forward to seeing it that way on December 16, and throughout the upcoming season."
GW last played host to an ACC team during the 2015-16 season, when it memorably delivered a 73-68 victory over sixth-ranked Virginia to a raucous, sold-out Smith Center crowd, in a game that served as the opener in ESPN's tip-off marathon.
The Colonials have one of the top home court advantages in the Atlantic 10 and the country, as their record in the Smith Center since 2013 stands at 56-9. Against non-conference competition, GW has won 30 of its last 31 home games.
