George Washington men's basketball will face its first of four power conference opponents as part of the 2012-13 non-conference schedule with a trip to South Bend, Ind., to face GW alumnus Mike Brey's Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
The meeting will be the first between the Colonials and Fighting Irish, as well as the first between longtime coaching colleagues Mike Lonergan and Mike Brey.
Brey, who recently signed a 10-year contract extension, led Notre Dame to a 22-12 overall record, a third place showing in the Big East Conference with a 13-5 mark, and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011-12 despite the loss of all-conference guard Tim Abromaitis to a season-ending injury.
The Fighting Irish will return four starters from last season's team, including Big East Most Improved Player Jack Cooley (12.5 ppg) and DeMatha Catholic graduate Jerian Grant (12.3 ppg). UND posted a 16-1 mark inside Purcell Pavilion in 2011-12, highlighted by a 67-58 upset of No. 1 ranked Syracuse in January.
