Colonials to Ride Metro to Verizon Center for 18th Annual Event

The George Washington men's basketball team will take to the Metro once again to travel to the Verizon Center to compete in the 18th annual BB&T Classic on Sunday, Dec. 2.
Head coach Mike Lonergan and the Colonials are once again planning to take Metro the 15 blocks from the GWU-Foggy Bottom station to Gallery Place-Chinatown and Verizon Center. Fans, media and GW's Spirit Program all joined the men's basketball team on its ride to last year's event in which the Colonials dropped a 75-60 decision to eventual Colonial Athletic Association champion and NCAA Tournament participant VCU. Last year's BB&T Classic, which also featured Maryland and Notre Dame, was broadcast regionally by MASN and nationally by Versus (now NBC Sports Network).
GW, along with Maryland, has participated in the BB&T Classic - which benefits the Children's Charities Foundation - since its inception in 1995. The Colonials won the event in 1997, 1999 and 2004 when it was still in a tournament format, and have a 13-14 overall record in 17 seasons.
