The George Washington men's basketball team will take to the Metro once again to travel to the Verizon Center to compete in the 18th annual BB&T Classic on Sunday, Dec. 2.
Head coach Mike Lonergan and the Colonials are once again planning to take Metro the 15 blocks from the GWU-Foggy Bottom station to Gallery Place-Chinatown and Verizon Center. Fans, media and GW's Spirit Program all joined the men's basketball team on its ride to last year's event in which the Colonials dropped a 75-60 decision to eventual Colonial Athletic Association champion and NCAA Tournament participant VCU. Last year's BB&T Classic, which also featured Maryland and Notre Dame, was broadcast regionally by MASN and nationally by Versus (now NBC Sports Network).
GW, along with Maryland, has participated in the BB&T Classic - which benefits the Children's Charities Foundation - since its inception in 1995. The Colonials won the event in 1997, 1999 and 2004 when it was still in a tournament format, and have a 13-14 overall record in 17 seasons.
Check back to GWsports.com later in the summer for details on the Colonials' BB&T Classic opponent, game time and event ticketing.
After checking in and watching Coach Lonergan's daily game breakdown, fans can visit Facebook.com/GWsports and answer a trivia question for a chance to be entered in a grand prize giveaway at the conclusion of the non-conference schedule announcements. Prizes include an annual subscription to GW All-Access, two Colonials Club passes for the men's basketball team's home opener, or men's basketball endzone season tickets.
