The George Washington men's basketball team will face its second of four power conference opponents, as well as host its first BCS foe since 2009, when it welcomes Kansas State to the Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Six games after visiting Notre Dame on Wednesday, Nov. 21, the Colonials will host the Big 12 Conference's Wildcats, who mark the first power conference team to visit the Smith Center since Providence (Big East) and Oregon State (Pac 12) during the 2009-10 season.
GW traveled to Manhattan, Kan., last December and dropped a 69-56 decision to then unbeaten K-State in front of 12,528 fans at Bramlage Coliseum. It was the two programs' first meeting in 71 years dating back to a Colonials' 43-25 home victory in December 1940.
New K-State head coach Bruce Weber replaces Frank Martin, who departed for South Carolina in March. Weber served previous head coaching stints at Southern Illinois (1998-2003) and Illinois (2003-11), including leading the Fighting Illini to the 2005 national championship game.
The Wildcats, who appear at No. 25 on NBC Sports' early 2012-13 Top 25 rankings, anticipate the return of 10 of their top 11 scorers and 13 of 15 lettermen from a 2011-12 squad that finished 22-11 overall and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Among those returning is district native and second team All-Big 12 selection Rodney McGruder, who led K-State in scoring at 15.8 points per game despite tallying just seven points against GW last season.
After checking in and watching Coach Lonergan's daily game breakdown, fans can visit Facebook.com/GWsports and answer a trivia question for a chance to be entered in a grand prize giveaway at the conclusion of the non-conference schedule announcements. Prizes include an annual subscription to GW All-Access, two Colonials Club passes for the men's basketball team's home opener, or men's basketball endzone season tickets.
