WASHINGTON, DC - A new integrated video, scoring and advertising system for George Washington University athletics and events is set to be installed this summer as part of the ongoing transformation of the Charles E. Smith Center. The system, designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, SD, is among the continued upgrades to a facility that has served as the home for GW athletics for more than 30 years.

"This upgrade will provide a state-of-the-art experience to George Washington athletics at the Smith Center," said Athletic Director Jack Kvancz. "The flexibility of live video with sponsor messages and stat information provides even greater value to our fans and corporate partners."

The new system will include a centerhung installation consisting of four light emitting diode (LED) video displays. The displays, which feature 10mm pixel spacing that is perfect for indoor sports and advertising, each measure approximately 10-feet high by 17-feet wide. They will be capable of showing live video and instant replays, colorful animations, vivid graphics and eye-catching advertisements.

"What makes GW's install unique is the size of the display, which will be among the largest in college basketball," said Arthur Portnoy of Daktronics Sales. "Once installed, GW will have the largest collegiate Daktronics 10-millimeter basketball displays in the mid-Atlantic region."

Five digital scorer's tables are being installed as well. These court-level displays will measure more than 3-feet high by 9-feet wide each, or approximately 45 feet total. They will be able to show game information and sponsor messages to the cheering crowds during games. Because the tables are digital, GW organizations and advertisers will have virtually unlimited options for displaying their dynamic information.

Two 51-foot-long ribbon display and other fascia displays, all featuring 16mm pixel spacing, will add more opportunities for showcasing sponsors and getting fans involved in the action.

Also included in the project is the new Show Control System. The video processing system, one of the latest developments from Daktronics, is touted by experts as the best in the industry, processing and scaling live and recorded video signal to vivid digital imagery on large displays.
