The Colonials will open the season in the 2010 NIT Season Tip-Off. Other teams in GW's pod include Villanova, Boston University and Marist. GW will play Boston University Nov. 16 in the season opener and either Villanova or Marist the following day. The consolation bracket games will take place on Nov. 22-23 at sites to be determined. The championship round is played at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 24 and 26. The winners of the regional-site games advance to New York City while the remaining 12 teams will play third- and fourth-round games on the home campuses of the three highest remaining seeds. For the second straight season, GW will face Navy in the 16th Annual BB&T Classic as part of a one-day tripleheader at the Verizon Center on Dec. 5. GW and Maryland annually co-host the event which benefits the Children's Charities Foundation of Washington. Other match-ups in the BB&T Classic feature Florida vs. American and Temple vs. Maryland. Road games are highlighted by GW's first-ever visits to Oregon State and UAB, as well as the Colonials' first game at George Mason since 1997. UAB was eliminated last season in the NIT quarterfinal round while Boston University ousted Oregon State from the CBI in a first-round game at Corvallis, OR. Under 10th-year head coach Karl Hobbs, GW will play at least four games against league opponents that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament field when they face Richmond (twice), Temple and Xavier. Other postseason A-10 opponents include 2010 NIT champion Dayton and NIT participant Rhode Island, as well as games against College Basketball Invitational (CBI) finalist Saint Louis and CBI participant Duquesne. The 2011 A-10 Men's Basketball Championship takes place Mar. 8-13. The top 12 teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the 2011 Men's Basketball Championship. The first-round games of the Championship will be hosted on the campuses of teams seeded #5, #6, #7, and #8 on Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2011. The top four seeded teams (#1-#4) will again receive a bye into the quarterfinal round, scheduled for Friday, Mar. 11 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. The Championship game will be held on Sunday, Mar. 13 and televised nationally at 1:00 p.m. on CBS Sports for the second straight year. The Colonials, 16-15 (6-10 A-10) in 2009-10, return four starters in senior C Joseph Katuka, junior guards Tony Taylor and Aaron Ware, and sophomore guard Lasan Kromah. They will be joined by seven other returnees and the 2010 recruiting class. NBA veteran Donyell Marshall also joins the GW coaching staff in 2010. Fans this season will be greeted by a new-look Smith Center with an all-new exterior, updated concessions concourses and a refurbished box office. In the arena, a larger new state-of-the-art Daktronics scoreboard display will enhance the spectator experience with high-resolution replays and live game stats.
