WASHINGTON, DC -- Roland Houston has been promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach for men's basketball at The George Washington University, head coach Karl Hobbs has announced.

"Roland has done a tremendous job for us, particularly in working with our big men," Hobbs said. "He is fully deserving of his new title and I congratulate him. I look forward to a continuation of the great work he does to contribute to our success."

Houston was hired at GW in June, 2004 after serving as an assistant coach at La Salle University for five seasons (1999-04).

A 1982 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Houston was a three-year starter for the Rams (1979-82) and captained the team as a senior. After college, Houston played professionally for 14 seasons for teams in France, Spain, Israel and Argentina. The Philadelphia native has been a consultant to professional players and overseas professional teams.

Houston's responsibilities at GW include recruiting and working with the Colonials' post players as well as game and practice preparation.
