Greg Collucci Promoted to Assistant Coach for GW Basketball

Sept. 1, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC -- Greg Collucci has been promoted to assistant coach for men's basketball at The George Washington University, head coach Karl Hobbs has announced.

The West Palm Beach, FL, native previously served as a graduate assistant for the GW Men's Basketball program in 2004-05 and as Director of Basketball Operations in 2005-06. GW earned NCAA berths in both of those seasons.

A four-year letterwinner for the Colonials, Collucci played from 2000-01 through the 2003-04 season. He appeared in 114 games and averaged 5.5 points for his career. He holds the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center record for three-pointers in a game when he hit eight during an overtime victory over Yale in 2001. He shot 160-for-445 (.360) from three-point range in his career and also totalled 82 assists and 41 steals.

"Greg brings a fresh perspective to our program," Hobbs said. "He relates well to the younger players and he has a very good eye for talent. He will now play an even greater role in recruiting and scouting. He's a great addition to our coaching staff and I'm very excited about having him here."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to join Karl Hobbs' staff as an assistant coach at The George Washington University," Collucci said. "Having attended this University and worked here for the past two years, I truly feel blessed to be a part of making our program one of the best in the country."

Collucci succeeds former GW assistant coach Phil Rowe, who left GW in June to take an athletics administrative position at Daniel Webster College in his native New Hampshire.

GW (27-3, 16-0 A-10) is coming off the best year in the program's 92-season history. GW became just the fourth team in the 30-year history of the Atlantic 10 to go undefeated in the league. After posting a 26-1 regular-season record that included 18 straight victories, GW won its first-round game in the Atlanta Region over UNC Wilmington prior to losing to overall No. 1 seed Duke in the second round.
