GW Basketball Reveals 2012-13 Television Schedule, Game Times
At Least a Dozen Colonials Men's Games, Three Women's Contests To Be Shown Live in DC Region
Oct. 8, 2012
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's and women's basketball are scheduled for at least 17 televised games in national, regional, local and online markets during the 2012-13 regular season, with 15 already confirmed for the DC region.
"Televised games not only offer valuable exposure for our basketball programs, but they also provide a great branding opportunity for the university as well as all of GW Athletics," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "We will continue to make televised basketball games a priority as we aim to Raise High the profile of GW Athletics and our 450 student-athletes."
Along with the television package, 26 of GW's 29 home contests - including the Nov. 3 men's exhibition versus Catholic and Nov. 4 women's exhibition against Wingate - will be available via live video streaming on GWsports.com's subscription multimedia platform GW All-Access.
The Colonials men's program will host a nationally televised showdown against the Kansas State Wildcats at the Charles E. Smith Center on Dec. 8. Game time for the CBS Sports Network broadcast has recently been moved back 30 minutes to 2:30 p.m., and fans are reminded to wear Buff for the game's BUFF OUT promotion.
Coaching friends Mike Lonergan and Mike Brey will meet in a nationally streamed contest when GW visits Notre Dame on Nov. 21. That game will be shown live nationally online on ESPN3 and Watch ESPN.
Additional games will be shown on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic (CSN), Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia (CSN Philly), Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS), Ocean State Network (OSN), Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) and Fox Sports Networks (FSN). Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic reaches more than 4.7 million cable and satellite homes throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as parts of West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
"Our increased televised presence last season made a big impact on our ability to recruit with the top programs in the Atlantic 10 and the nation," said head men's basketball coach Mike Lonergan. "I'm once again looking forward to showcasing our team and our exciting newcomers to potential student-athletes, fans and alumni on television and online this season."
Three of the four rounds of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., are also scheduled for television. The quarterfinals will be produced in regional markets by CBS Sports Network, while the semifinals will air on national CBSSN. The title game will tip-off at 1:00 p.m., on CBS in its lead-up to Selection Sunday.
For the second year in a row, the GW women's basketball team will host a nationally televised game, as the Colonials' Feb. 24 contest against 2012 NCAA Sweet 16 participant St. Bonaventure at the Smith Center will air on CBS Sports Network.
In addition, GW's home games against district rival Georgetown (Dec. 1) and Atlantic 10 newcomer Butler (Feb. 10) will both be broadcast regionally by Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. Fans are reminded to wear Buff for the contest against the Hoyas as part of the BUFF OUT promotion, while the Colonials will celebrate Homecoming and support the Play 4Kay initiative to raise breast cancer awareness against the Bulldogs.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our program on television this season as we look to restore the proud tradition of GW women's basketball," said first-year head women's basketball coach Jonathan Tsipis. "Having the opportunity to play on TV multiple times this season in addition to most of our home games being available online only enhances our exposure both regionally and nationally."
The semifinal round of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship at Saint Joseph's University's Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena will air live on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, March 10, while the title game, which will be played in conjunctionwith the men's semifinal contests at Barclays Center on Saturday, March 16, will be televised on the ESPN Networks.
