Oct. 13, 2011
2011-12 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Teams and Poll | BROOKLYN, N.Y. - George Washington men's basketball senior guard Tony Taylor was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference First Team Thursday at the league's annual media day, held at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge just blocks from Barclays Center, the site of the A-10 Championship beginning in 2013. "I was very happy to see the coaches voted Tony to the First Team," said first-year head coach Mike Lonergan. "It is a well deserved honor, and hopefully his hard work this offseason leads to a special senior year." Taylor earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 accolades as a junior in 2010-11 after leading the Colonials in scoring, assists and steals. The Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., native ranked 12th in the A-10 in scoring at 15.0 points per game and finished third in the league with 4.6 assists per game. With 465 total points last season, Taylor is now just 60 shy of becoming the 43rd member of GW's 1,000-point club. GW, which went 17-14 overall and tied for fourth in the A-10 regular-season standings at 10-6 in 2011, was picked eighth in the Preseason Predicted Order of Finish as chosen by the league's head coaches and media members. "Our players and coaches have some ambitious goals for this season," said Coach Lonergan. "Regardless of our predicted finish, we're going to stay focused on achieving those goals." GW will play an elevated and challenging 30-game schedule in 2011-12 with 15 teams which advanced to postseason play last March and 12 teams rated inside the Top 100 of the final 2011 NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). The Colonials host Bowie State in a preseason exhibition Nov. 6 before opening the regular season against UMES at Charles E. Smith Center on Friday, Nov. 11. Single game tickets were made available to the public Wednesday morning and accompany a wealth of ticketing options for GW men's basketball this season.
