WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington men's basketball will play host to Div. II University of West Georgia in the Colonials' only preseason contest of the 2009-10 season. The Colonials and Wolves will tip off at 1:00 p.m. at Charles E. Smith Center, located at 22nd & G Streets, NW.
After three weeks of practices and intrasquad scrimmages, the Colonials will welcome the opportunity to play against another team. GW opens the 2009-10 regular season Sunday, Nov. 15, on the road at UNC Wilmington in a 4:30 p.m. contest. GW has won four straight season openers dating back to the start of the 2003-04 season. GW then travels to Boston University for a Nov. 17 game before the home opener on Nov. 21 against UMBC at 2:00 p.m.
The Colonials, under ninth-year head coach Karl Hobbs, return three starters led by senior forward Damian Hollis (13.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg), redshirt junior guard Travis King (6.2 ppg, 2.4 assists) and sophomore guard Tony Taylor (6.6 ppg, 2.8 assists), along with six highly-touted freshmen.
West Georgia is a Division II program located in Carrollton, GA. The Wolves return three starters from last year's 7-20 team under third-year coach Michael Cooney. It marks the second straight year GW has hosted West Georgia in the preseason. The Colonials defeated the Wolves, 101-71, last Nov. 8.
Saturday's exhibition game will not be broadcast on radio but is available via live video webstreaming on www.GWsports.com. Most of GW's games will be broadcast on 1500 AM and 820 AM with seven games broadcast on 1050 AM as well as www.FederalNewsRadio.com and www.GWsports.com.
NOTE: Approximately 20 minutes after the game ends, fans will be able to watch Karl Hobbs' post-game press conference live using the same link from the live game feed.
