PHILADELPHIA, PA - Small forward J.R. Pinnock (McDonough, GA/Coastal Christian) has been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference preseason All-Rookie Team the league office has announced. The preseason all-conference teams were selected by a poll of the Atlantic 10's head coaches and media. Pinnock has impressed the coaching staff in preseason practices.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Pinnock averaged 22.0 points, 10.0 rebounds as a senior under coach Walter Webb at Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia Beach, VA. Both figures led the team. Pinnock was ranked 67th among the Top 100 recruits by RivalsHoops.com and he was ranked #2 in the state of Virginia by Virginiaprep.com in June, 2002.

Basketball News has named Pinnock its Newcomer of the Year in the Atlantic 10.

Pinnock scored a school-record 42 points in a game as a junior two years ago and was ranked #5 in the state of Georgia by the Atlanta Youth Prep Star Basketball Report.

The Hurricanes posted a record of 33-9 (.786) during Pinnock's senior season at Coastal Christian. "I think J.R. can take GW to another level," Webb said. "He doesn't play at just one speed...he can change gears and be an assist man, a playmaker, a slasher. He moves well without the ball. His style of play is similar to that of [Detroit Piston] Richard Hamilton or [Seattle Supersonic] Ray Allen."

"Pinnock is a big second guard with good athletic ability," said Tom Konchalski of HSBI Reports. "He is a good mid-range shooter with a great intermediate game."

"J.R. has a terrific work ethic," GW coach Karl Hobbs said. "He is as good an athlete as I've seen come to GW. He gives us a defensive presence and mentality. He is an outstanding scorer, particularly in transition."
