McDonald Named A-10 Men's Hoops Co-Rookie, GW's Colonial of the Week
Freshman Guard is First GW Player to Earn Conference Award Since 2010

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington men's basketball freshman guard Joe McDonald earned a share of this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award, as well as the GWsports.com Colonial of the Week, after leading the Colonials to their first victory of the 2012-13 season.
In just his second collegiate game, McDonald led all players with 21 points and added seven rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes to lift GW to a 72-59 victory at Boston University on Saturday. He made all eight of his free throw attempts and his lone three-pointer while finishing 6-of-9 from the field. He scored 12 of his 21 points and grabbed five rebounds in the second half to help the Colonials keep the Terriers at bay.
McDonald also performed on the defensive end where he helped limit BU's backcourt counterparts Maurice Watson, Jr., and D.J. Irving to combined 5-for-25 shooting.
McDonald's 21 points were the most for a GW rookie since Nemanja Mikic netted 23 points against UNC Wilmington in Nov. 2010, and the A-10 Rookie of the Week award is the first for a GW player since Mikic on Dec. 20, 2010. He shares this week's A-10 award with Dayton freshman Dyshawn Pierre.
GW (1-1) returns to action this Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The match-up is the first between the Colonials and Fighting Irish, and the first between coaching colleagues Mike Lonergan and GW alumnus Mike Brey ('82). The 7 p.m. game can be viewed online on ESPN3 and WatchESPN, and heard live on 1050 AM, FederalNewsRadio.com and RaiseHigh.tv.
