Nov. 27, 2009
Game Notes
Oregon State (1-3) at George Washington (4-0)
GW COACH: Karl Hobbs (Connecticut `85)
OSU COACH: Craig Robinson (Princeton `83)
Saturday's Game: Coming off its fourth straight victory Tuesday, GW (4-0) hosts Oregon State (1-3) in the third of five straight home games and the first-ever meeting at Smith Center. GW's victory over Princeton on Tuesday gave the Colonials a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since the 2006-07 season when GW also began the year 4-0 before losing at Providence. Today's game marks the first-ever visit to the Smith Center by a team from the Pacific-10 Conference. Oregon State also travelled to the District last season to face Howard. GW defeated OSU, 77-70, in the only meeting between the teams 15 years ago in Dec., 1994 at the Far West Classic in Portland, OR. The Beavers are coming off a 65-63 loss to Sacramento State last Saturday in Corvallis. OSU senior Seth Tarver led the Beavers with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Hornets. Oregon State is picked to finish fifth in the Pac-10 in the league's preseason media poll released Oct. 29. A Closer Look at Oregon State: A member of the Pacific-10 Conference, Oregon State was predicted to finish fifth in the Pac-10 preseason media poll announced Oct. 29. The Beavers are off to a slow start, however, and come to Smith Center with a 1-3 record that includes a neutral-site victory over South Dakota (62-47) and, most recently, a 65-63 loss to Sacramento State at home Nov. 21. The Beavers are led by senior G/F Seth Tarver with 12.3 ppg and 6.5 rebounds a game. His twin brother, Josh (4.0 ppg, 10 assists), also has started all four games this season for the Beavers. Junior G Calvin Haynes runs the Beaver offense and has handed out 11 assists to lead the team but has turned it over 12 times. As a team, the 2009-10 Beavers are shooting 42 percent from the field, 32 percent from 3-point range and 59 percent from the line. Oregon State has controlled the boards so far posting a +6.5 rebounding margin but has been plagued by a -5.0 turnover margin through its first four contests.
Next Game: GW hosts George Mason (3-2) Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Smith Center. The game will be televised live on MASN throughout the mid-Atlantic region and broadcast live on 1500 AM, 820 AM and at FederalNewsRadio.com as well as live video streamed via the Internet at www.GWsports.com.
