Watanabe hit a pair of career milestones while leading the men's basketball team to key victories at home over Morgan State and vs. Temple in the BB&T Classic.
The Japanese sensation scored a career-high 26 points on International Night in the Smith Center on Wednesday, as the Colonials beat Morgan State 73-66. His first point of the evening was the 1,000th of his career, making him the 49th member of the prestigious club in GW history.
Watanabe followed that performance with 17 points and six rebounds in a 71-67 win over Temple in Capital One Arena.
For the week, Watanabe averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks, while shooting .577 (15-26) from the floor and .455 (5-11) from three-point range. He also earned A-10 Co-Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
