Omar Williams Signs With GW Basketball

Dec. 11, 2001

WASHINGTON, DC - Celestial Prep standout Omar Williams has signed a national-letter-of-intent to play basketball at The George Washington University, head coach Karl Hobbs has announced.

Williams is a 6-foot-9,180-pound speedster who can play four positions. He was tabbed the No. 88th-ranked senior by ESPN.com.

"There's no doubt in my mind that Omar is one of the top 20 players in the country," Hobbs said. "He's got terrific perimeter skills."

Williams is currently averaging 22 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and five steals for the Crusaders (4-2).

Williams is in his second season at Celestial Prep under coach Darryl Schofield. "He is one of the smartest players I've ever coached," Schofield said of Williams. The Crusaders posted a 27-6 record last season as an independent.

GW's recruiting class, which includes three other early signees, is ranked No. 22 in the nation and tops in the Atlantic 10 Conference by RivalsHoops.com.
