As a freshman, Luthra finished 13th at the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational shooting 78-74 and shot 71 in the first round of the McDonald Cup at Yale Golf Club. That spring Raman, know as the "Big Noodle" to his teammates, became one of six active Colonials to win an Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie-of-the-Week award, when he earned the honor on March 29th. He was recognized by the league for his 72-76 showing at the GW Invitational good for fifth overall.
In 2004-05 Raman emerged as a steady member of the line-up, starting every round for the Colonials. Luthra took the first round lead at the ODU SeaScape Invitational with a 70 but slipped in the second round. However it was that experience that may have helped Raman pick up his first collegiate victory at the rain-shortened George Washington Invitational, shooting 73. Luthra fired a steady 76-72-73 to finish 13th and help the team to the title at the Princeton Invitational.
In his junior year Raman again was a regular in the line-up and placed ninth at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational, shooting 77-71 which helped the team to a runner-up finish. Raman shot 73-71-75 at the 2006 A-10 Championship. In May of 2006 he became the first Colonial to hit a golf shot at the NCAA Tournament in 60 years as he was the first player off the tee for the Colonials. He finished the season ranked number nine in the country in driving accuracy according to Golfstat.
As a senior, Luthra was named co-captain and twice was the low Colonial in fall events. He shot 72-75 and finished 25th at the Navy Fall Classic and 72-74 to finish 33rd at the ODU SeaScape Intercollegiate. As of April 1st, he as leading the nation in Driving Accuracy.
Junior, High School & Amateur Golf
Luthra graduated from the Nichols School in Buffalo, NY, in 2002 and chose to take a postgraduate year at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC. While there, Luthra was a part-time student at the University of South Carolina-Hilton Head. That winter, he finished 15th at the IJGT at Berkley Hall with 148, second with 147 at the IJGT Sea Trail Classic and third at the IJGT at Duke University (in cold February weather) with 84-71. As a junior golfer, Luthra had four Top 10 finishes in AJGA competition. In 2002, he finished tenth at both the AJGA Lessings Classic and the AJGA Chicago Junior with 229 and 222, respectively. In 2001, Luthra finished eighth at the AJGA Eastern-Canada Junior with 223 and sixth at the AJGA Sand Barrens Junior with 79-69-71. In the summer of 2004 Raman shot 306 in the Monroe Invitational and finished eighth at the Troy Invitational shooting 223.
