McGuigan is a member at Royal St. George's in England and has played extensively in England, Ireland and the U.S. In 2004-05 he came to the states to attend the David Leadbetter Academy in Florida and take classes at Pendleton. While at Leadbetter he played extensively on the FCWT and IJGT Tours. In 2004, he finished sixth at the 2004 IJGT Saddlebrook event with 77-69 and the Junior Champions Tour Meadows Classic with 75-79. In 2005, he placed eighth at the FCWT Saddlebrook Challenge with 73-76 and ninth at the FCWT National Championship qualifier with 76-72. Back home in the UK, McGuigan qualified for the 2005 British Boy's Championship and lost in match play and played in the 2005 Irish Boys Championship

McGuigan's father, Barry McGuigan, fought for Ireland in the 1980 Olympics, was the world Featherweight champion in the mid-80s and was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in the summer of 2005.
