Team Co-Captain. Had a pair of Top-10 finishes last season including a tie for 7th at the Navy Spring Invitational with a +4 146. Fired his career low 70 at Rehoboth Beach en route to an 8th-place finish. As a sophomore, he posted a steady 75-74 to finish in the top 20 at the Princeton Invitational and saw his score count twice on the 2007 A-10 tournament team. Played in six rounds as a freshman. The spring of his sophomore year was a breakout semester for him. He shot a career-low, one-under-par 71 to lead GW at their spring break dual match at the University of New Orleans. Two weeks later he shot 74-74 at the rain shortened Princeton Invitational. He closed out the year shooting 72-77-75 at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship, helping the team to a fifth-place finish. As a junior he placed 8th at the 2007 Rehoboth Beach Invitational.
Junior, High School & Amateur Golf:
Graduated from Piedmont H.S. in 2004 and spent a post-grad year at the International Junior Golf Academy. Newland finished 13th at the 2003 Northern California Junior Championship shooting, 82-76-74. He fired 75-77 at the 2005 IJGT Orange Lake Classic and finished tenth at the 2005 IJGT Daufskie Island event. Newland has worked as a counselor at the Stanford University Golf Camp. In 2005, he fired a 75 to qualify for the Northern California Amateur. He qualified again in 2006.
