His first career round was an even par 71 at the Navy Fall Classic. Two weeks later he finished 2nd at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational, shooting an even-par 142 (72-70). He was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance at the RBI and then again the following week, shooting 75-71-70 to lead GW at the Joe Agee Invitational. Wendelken graduated from Samammish H.S. in 2005 and finished fifth at the Washington State High School Championship as a senior. He spent the following year at the International Junior Golf Academy where he played an extensive IJGT schedule, finishing 11th a the IJGT Tour Championship shooting 73-71-74.
