Quickly emerged as a key starter in the fall of his freshman year. His first career round was an even par 71 at the Navy Fall Classic. Two weeks later he finished 2nd at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational, shooting an even-par 142 (72-70). He was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance at the RBI and then again the following week, shooting 75-71-70 to lead GW at the Joe Agee Invitational. Tied his career low with a 70 at the Joe Agee Invitational. Before breaking his wrist in February, 2007, in a non-golf-related accident, Wendelken was leading the team in scoring average. Junior, High School & Amateur Golf:
Wendelken graduated from Samammish H.S. in 2005 and finished fifth at the Washington State High School Championship as a senior. He spent the following year at the International Junior Golf Academy where he played an extensive IJGT schedule, finishing 11th a the IJGT Tour Championship shooting 73-71-74.
