TUCSON, Ariz. - GW golf completed its first tournament of the spring season on Tuesday with junior Jack Persons leading the way in a tie for 37th place at the Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club.

Persons followed up Monday's second-round, season-low 1-over par 72 with a 4-over 75 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 12-over 225 (78-72-75) on Sewailo's par-71, 7,262-yard course. Persons added three birdies during his final round 75 to finish the event tied for sixth in the 83-player field with 10 birdies.

GW closed with a 31-over 315 on Tuesday to finish in 14th place at 87-over 939 (318-306-315). No. 4 California overcame a two-shot deficit entering the final round and finished at 1-over 853 to post a 14-shot victory over runner-up Arizona. The Golden Bears' duo of Brandon Hagy and Joel Stalter shared the individual title at 2-under 211.

Freshman Michael Heda joined Persons with three rounds in the 70s, carding a final round 8-over 79 en route to a tie for 60th at 19-over 232 (76-77-79).

Sophomore Michael Helton matched Heda's final round 8-over 79 to tie for 74th at 25-over 238 (81-78-79). Freshman Lucas Farmer finished 81st at 33-over 246 (85-79-82) and senior Graham Lawyer placed 83rd at 42-over 255 (83-82-90).

GW returns to tournament play in March at the Bash at the Beach at The Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., March 10-11.
