GW Golf in Sixth Through Round One of Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate

HARMONY, Fla. – Competing in its first event of the 2013 spring season, the George Washington golf team is in sixth place through Round 1 of the Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate.

The Colonials shot a combined score of 18-over par 306 on Monday at the par-72, 7,208-yard Harmony Golf Preserve. Host VCU and Florida Atlantic are tied for first with a 2-under 286, and Florida Gulf Coast is in third with a score of 6-over 294. Austin Peay is in fourth with a 7-over 295 and Villanova is narrowly ahead of GW in fifth with a 17-over 305.

Freshman Steve Piela paces the Colonials with an even-par 72 to sit in a four-way tie for fifth. Classmate Howard Hickey is in 24th after 18 holes with a 5-over 77 and junior Graham Lawyer is tied for 25th after carding a 6-over 78. Sophomore Jack Persons is tied for 27th with a 7-over 29.
