Golf Places Fifth at Princeton Invitational
April 12, 2004 PRINCETON, NJ - The GW golf team shot a combined 594, 11 strokes off the pace, to finish in fifth place at the Princeton Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at the par-71, 6,390-yard Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, NJ. The host Tigers won the 23-team tournament with a 15-over-par 583 team score. Navy's Billy Hurley won the 36-hole event with a three-under-par 139 (68-71) followed by Princeton's Jason Gerken and William & Mary's Gary Barton, each of whom carded 142s. GW freshman Jack Tyler (Novi, MI/Novi) was the low Colonial with a four-over 146 (70-76) to finish in a four-way tie for ninth place out of 120 individuals. Colonials sophomore Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) came in two strokes behind Tyler with a 148 (74-74). Teammate Dan Mirabella (Ann Arbor, MI/Saline) carded a 150 (71-79), good for 23rd place. GW next hosts the 36-hole Rehoboth Beach Spring Invitational, April 11, at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, DE.
