ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The GW golf team shot a combined 599 to finish second at the Navy Spring Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, at the par-71, 6,556-yard Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, MD. The 599 was just five stroles off the pace but 24 stokes better than the Colonials score in the same tournament last year when it was plagued with difficult weather conditions.
GW junior Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL) was again the low Colonial with a two-round 148 (72-76) to tie for fourth place out of 105 golfers. It marked Carroll's seventh Top-10 finish this season and fifth straight Top 10. Guilford College won the 20-team tournament with a 26-over par 594 score.
Temple's Billy Mullen won the 36-hole event with a two-under-par 140 (70-70) followed by Guilford's Colin Clark who carded an even-par 142 (69-73). GW junior Dan Mirabella (Ann Arbor, MI) tied for seventh place overall with a seven-over 149 (71-78). It was Mirabella's first Top-10 finish this season and his fourth in the last two seasons.
GW next plays in the Atlantic 10 Championship, May 6-8, at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, RI.
