Navy Spring Invitational Round 1 Results

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior Taylor Fuqua and the George Washington golf team are in first place out of 20 teams and 111 golfers after Day 1 of the Navy Spring Invitational.

Fuqua is in a tie for medalist honors with Georgetown’s Brian Dorfman with a 1-under 70, while the Colonials lead Columbia and Georgetown by one stroke with a 7-over 291 at the par-71 Naval Academy Golf Course.

“I’m very excited for Taylor, he played very well today,” said head coach Terry Shaffer (’79). “We have a great shot at winning if everyone continues to shoot well on Sunday.”

Freshman Jack Persons and senior Martin Liu are tied for 12th with scores of 2-over 73. Senior Andres Pumariega sits in 33rd with a 4-over 75, and classmate Brandon Rukin is tied for 58th with a 6-over 77.

Junior Manny Tulumaris and sophomore Graham Lawyer are both tied for 99th place after shooting 12-over 83.

The Colonials complete the final 18 holes of the Invitational on Sunday morning. GW tees off at 10:06 a.m.
