Golf Ties for Third at Rain-Shortened URI Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, RI - GW freshman Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) shot a three-over-par 75 to tie for seventh in the URI Newport Invitational Friday at the par-72, 6,974-yard Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, RI. GW tied for third in the 13-team field with a team total 312, tied with Rutgers and 13 strokes behind tournament champion Binghamton (299). The second round of the tournament was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Colonials' senior Brad Friedlander (Baltimore, MD/Pikesville) was tied for 13th place after the first round with a 77 (37-40) followed by freshman Dan Mirabella (Ann Arbor, MI/Saline) who tied for 24th with a 79 (41-38). Next up for the Colonials is the Atlantic 10 Championship May 2-4, at NCR Country Club in Dayton, OH.
