GW Golf Finishes 11th at Adams Cup of Newport

Junior Graham Lawyer finished in a tie for 45th at the Adams Cup with a three-round score of 22-over 233.

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The George Washington golf team wrapped up its first action of the fall season with an 11th place finish at the Adams Cup of Newport on Tuesday.

The Colonials combined for a 92-over par 936 at the par-71, 6,675-yard Carnegie Abbey Golf Club to finish one stroke ahead of fellow Atlantic 10 member Fordham. UCF won the 12-team event with a combined score of 22-over 866 and Yale’s Sam Bernstein took home medalist honors after carding a three-round score of even-par 211.

Sophomore Jack Persons paced GW as he tied for 36th out of 70 golfers with a 54-hole score of 20-over 231. Junior Graham Lawyer finished two strokes behind Persons and tied for 45th with a score of 22-over 233.

Freshman Steve Piela scored a 23-over 234 through three rounds to tie for 49th in his first career tournament and sophomore Jonathan Dresnick finished in 58th with a combined score of 27-over 238.

The Colonials return to action on Monday, Sept. 24 for the two-day Hartford Hawks Invitational at the Bulls Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn.
