Freshman Farmer Ties for 20th to Lead GW Golf at Adams Cup
Rookie Posts Second-Best Finish Among Atlantic 10 Golfers

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Freshman Lucas Farmer registered a top-20 performance in his first collegiate event by finishing tied for 20th at the Adams Cup of Newport at Newport National Golf Club on Tuesday.
Farmer, who recorded an ace and two-round 1-under-par 143 on Monday, faded with an 11-over 83 on Tuesday, but still remained in the top 20 with a 54-hole total of 10-over 226 (71-72-83). The rookie from Highland, Md., posted the second-best showing of any Atlantic 10 golfer in the field (URI's Joseph Leavitt T-5th with 218) and tied for sixth among the 90 golfers with 35 pars.
After playing between 4.8 and 5.7 shots over par during 36 holes on Monday, the par-72, 7,244-yard Newport National course showed its teeth over Tuesday's 18-hole finale with a field scoring average of 80.08 and only one under-par round.
UCF rolled to its fourth consecutive tournament title with an 8-under 856 team total, while Bethune-Cookman placed second at 8-over 872 and host Rhode Island finished third at 40-over 904. GW tied Villanova for 13th out of 16 teams with a three-round total of 80-over 944 (310-313-321). Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Fricker captured medalist honors at 11-under 205 (67-66-72).
Junior Jack Persons recorded GW's best round on Tuesday, firing a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 57th at 23-over 239 (80-81-78).
Sophomore Michael Helton tied for 65th at 25-over 241 (82-78-81) following a third round 81. Senior Graham Lawyer carded his second round in the 70s with a 79 on Tuesday to tie for 67th at 26-over 242 (79-84-79). Junior Jonathan Dresnick tied for 84th at 33-over 249 (80-82-87).
GW returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the 54-hole VCU Shootout on Hermitage Country Club's Manakin Course in Manakin-Sabot, Va.
