Golf Places Eighth at Penn/Big 5 Classic

FLOURTOWN, PA -- George Washington junior Tim Johnson (Marblehead, MA) carded a pair of 76s (152) to finish in a seven-way tie for 17th place, Saturday and Sunday, at the 36-hole Penn/Big 5 Classic near Philadelphia. The Colonials placed eighth in the 15-team field at the par-71, 6,834-yard Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, PA. In the same event last year, Johnson fired a 148 good for a three-way tie for ninth place. Columbia won the tournament with a 23-over par 591, 13 strokes ahead of runners-up Georgetown and the host Quakers of Pennsylvania. Columbia had two of its players tie for the individual crown, and on the first playoff hole Chris Arkin defeated Chris Condello for medalist honors. Both players shot two-round totals of 146. The Colonials next compete in the 54-hole Charlotte 49er Invitational, Oct. 22-23, at Concord Country Club near Charlotte, NC. Individual Colonials' scores (75 total golfers):
