Pumariega Leads GW Golf at Donald Ross Intercollegiate

Results Through Two Rounds

MORGANTON, N.C. – Senior Andres Pumariega sits tied for 12th-place individually to pace the George Washington men’s golf team through two rounds Monday at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State.

GW ranks eighth out of 11 teams with a total team score of 21-over 595.  Pumariega fired an 2-over par 144 over two rounds, while classmate Martin Liu is tied for 18th just one stroke behind with a two-round 3-over 145.

The Colonials are competing against the host Mountaineers, as well as Gardner-Webb, High Point, Lynn, UMES, Presbyterian, Radford, Stetson, Elon and Western Carolina at the par-70, 6,540-yard course at Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.  Florida’s Lynn University leads all teams with a team total of 6-under 568, and Presbyterian’s Matt Sizemore is in first place with a two-round total of 10-under 132 .

Pumariega shot 2-over par 72 in both rounds Monday for a total of 144, while Liu fired an opening round even-under 70, followed by a 5-over 75 in the second round. Senior Taylor Fuqua sits in a tie for 34th after shooting 9-over 151 with rounds of 75 and 76.

Senior Brandon Rukin is tied for 53rd at 14-over 156 with a first-round 80 and second-round 76. Junior Brennan Wallman is in 59th after shooting 79 and 80 for a total of 17-over 159.

GW returns to the Mimosa Hills Golf Course on Tuesday morning for third-round action at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.
