Golf Takes Third at Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The GW golf team shot a final round 2-over par to take third place at the Elon Phoenix Invitational which wrapped up on Tuesday at Alamance Country Club.

The Colonials set the school record for low tournament score with a three-day total of 854 (+2), with both Logan Lowe and Adrian Castagnola recording top-10 finishes. Lowe closed with a 4-under 67 on Tuesday to finish -6 and tied for fourth, while Castagnola was just a shot behind at 5-under and tied for sixth.

Dylan MacQueen of Western Carolina was one off the course record with a final round 62 to overcome a three-shot deficit and win by five. Host Elon took the team title with an 11-under par 841 while Gardner-Webb was runner-up with a 7-under 845.

    NOTABLE

  • GW's previous low total in a 54-hole event was 860 at the Desert Shootout in 2016 and the A-10 Championship in 2006.
  • Relative to par, the 2-over finish is the fifth best 54-hole tournament score in school history. The top four are: -4 (Desert Shootout in 2016), -4 (A-10 Championship in 2006), -3 (A-10 Championship in 2017) and +1 (Joe Agee Invitational in 2005).
  • Lowe's 207 total ties his own record for lowest 54-hole tournament in school history. Relative to par, his -6 matches his personal best and remains second in school history behind Jack Persons' -9 in 2011.
  • Lowe has finished under par in all four tournaments this fall.
  • Castagnola's 5-under 208 is the best result of his career and ties for the fourth-lowest 54-hole total in school history.
