POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The George Washington golf team fired its best round of the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday with a 14-over par 302 and finished 18th overall at the par-72, 6,535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.

The Colonials shot 314 and 321 in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively, and closed the event with its best round to combine for a 54-hole score of 73-over 937.

Georgia Southern – which is ranked No. 56 in the country by Golfstat – led the 18-team field through each round and won the event with a combined score of 10-under 854. The Bulldogs’ Scott Wolfes took home medalist honors on a one-hole playoff with Radford’s Weston Ekuland with a score of nine-under 207.

GW sophomore Jack Persons carded his best round on Tuesday with a 1-under 71. He finished tied for 31st overall out of 94 golfers with a three-round score of 8-over 224. Junior Graham Lawyer also shot a 1-under 71 in Round 3 – his best score of the tournament – to combine for a total score of 16-over 232 and finish in 58th place.

Freshman Michael Helton tied for 78th with a 54-hole score of 23-over 239, and classmate Steve Piela carded a 29-over 245 to tie for 90th place.

The Colonials close the fall season at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate from Oct. 28-30. The 54-hole event will be held at the Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
