Round Two Results

POWELLS POINTN.C. – Freshman Jack Persons fired a 2-under par score of 70 in the second round of the Old Dominion/Outerbanks Collegiate tournament in Powells PointN.C., on Monday to lead the George Washington men’s golf team for the second straight day.

Persons shot back-to-back under par scores for a two-round total of 6-under 138 as he sits in a tie for third place out of 90 golfers at the par-72 Kilmarlic Golf Club. As a team, the Colonials are in fifth place with a two-round total of 6-over 582. Liberty, the No. 32 team in the country according to Golf Week rankings, leads the 18-team pack with a 19-under 557.

“I am so proud of how Jack has played these past two rounds,” said head coach Terry Shaffer. “He is playing great golf and isn’t letting the pressure get to him.”

Senior Andres Pumariega, who was tied for 42nd after round one, improved to a tie for 15th after firing a second round score of 2-under 70 for a two-round total of 1-over 145. Senior Brandon Rukin shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 51st with a two-round total of 6-over 150.

“We’re competing against some really great ranked teams and are playing very well,” Shaffer said. “If we show up ready to play tomorrow I think we can definitely finish higher.”

Senior Taylor Fuqua is tied for 64th with through two rounds with a total of 9-over 153 after shooting a 4-over 76 on Monday. Classmate Martin Liu shot a two-round total of 12-over 156 and is tied for 73rd.
