GW Golf Finishes in 20th at Wendy's Kiawah Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The George Washington golf team shot a third-round score of 25-over 309 to finish in 20thplace at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic on Tuesday, hosted by Charleston Southern University.

The Colonials carded a 309 in the third and final round to finish with a three-day score of 75-over par 927 at the par-71,7,701-yard Turtle Point Golf Course. Sophomore Jack Persons shot a 7-over 78 through Round 3 for a combined score of 11-over to tie for 28th.

South Carolina, which is ranked No. 63 in the country by Golfstat, won the event with a combined score of 7-over 859 and the Gamecocks’ Caleb Sturgeon claimed medalist honors with a 3-under 210.

Freshman Howard Hickey finished in a tie for 67th after shooting a 7-over 78 on Tuesday for a three-round score of 20-over 233. Sophomore Jonathan Dresnick fired his best score through Round 3 with a 2-over 73 to tie for 83rd with a total score of 24-over 237.

Freshman Michael Helton shot a third-round score of 9-over 80 to combine for a 25-over 238 and tie for 89th place. Junior Graham Lawyer finished tied for 99th with a three-round score of 26-over 239 after shooting a 9-over 80 on Tuesday.



The reigning Atlantic 10 champions wrap the fall season and will return to action in February of 2013.
