Golf Places 16th In Strong Field at Seascape

KITTY HAWK, NC (Oct. 30) - The GW Golf team placed 16th in the 21-team ODU/Seascape Collegiate, Monday and Tuesday at Kitty Hawk, NC. The field included three Top-50 teams. The Colonials combined for a 617 (316-301) at the par-72, 6,469-yard Seascape Golf Course. UNC Wilmington won the 22nd edition of the tournament with a team total of 569 followed by No. 38 Maryland (570), No. 48 Furman (582) and 10th-ranked Virginia Tech (587).

The Colonials edged the University of Richmond marking the first time a GW golf team had defeated the Spiders since March, 1982.

For the sixth straight tournament, GW's Thomas Blankvoort (Curacao, Netherlands) was the low Colonial with a two-over-par 146 (70-76) to finish in a four-way tie for 16th in the 36-hole event.

Junior Michael Ball (Potomac, MD) and Charles Taylor (St. Lambert, Quebec) were the second-lowest Colonials and tied for 74th, each with a two-round total 158. Freshman Ryan Mello (Warwick, Bermuda) tied for 80th among 104 individuals with a 160 followed by Stuart Healey's (East Sussex, England) 161.

UNC Wilmington's Bill Lewis won the tournament with a six-under-par 138 (68-70).
