Golf's Andres Pumariega Wins A-10 Performer of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- GW junior Andres Pumariega has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for men's golf, the league office announced Monday. Pumariega became just the fourth Colonial to shoot four-under or better in a 54-hole tournament. Pumariega carded 71-72-69 to finish as the low Colonial and tied for seventh place in the 73-player field. It also marked his first Top-10 finish of the season. His third-round 69 was the lowest single-round score by a Colonial for the 2010-11 season. Pumariega's efforts helped the Colonials' to a 6th-place in the 12-team Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, Sunday-Tuesday, in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Colonials combined to shoot a 886 in the tournament led by Pumariega's 212. GW finished with a team total of 886 (299-293-294) at the par-72, 6817-yard Surf Club Golf Course. GW finished ahead of the only other A-10 team in the tournament, St. Bonaventure, by 10 strokes. The Colonials next host the GW Invitational on Mar. 18-19 at Bethany Beach, DE. The 54-hole event takes place at the par-72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.
