PHILADELPHIA, PA -- For an unprecedented sixth time this season, George Washington freshman Brendan Barrack has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's golf, the league office announced Monday.
Barrack becomes the first freshman to win six weekly Rookie awards. No other golfer has won more than five A-10 Rookie awards since the league began keeping records in 1999. The last freshman to win at least five A-10 Rookie awards was Richmond's Tim Courtney during the 2005-06 season. Only two other GW golfers have won the award as many as three times (Lewis Sturdy in 2006 and Brian Carroll in 2003).
Barrack was the low Colonial with a two-round 149 at the adidas Hoosier Invitational men's golf tournament hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Thirty-six holes of the two-day event were played Saturday with an additional 18 holes scheduled for Sunday before rain washed out the final round.
"The recognition that Brendan has received from the A-10 has been a testament to his consistency," GW coach Scott Allen said. "Brendan has shown an amazing amount of poise for a freshman and he's become a player that we can really count on for a solid score each round."
The Toronto, Canada native also won the A-10 Rookie award on Sept. 10 following his collegiate debut, and again on Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Mar. 3 and, most recently, on Mar. 24. Barrack's 75.9 stroke average is third-best on the team.
Next up for the Colonials is the Irish Spring Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, on April 5, at South Bend, IN.
