WASHINGTON, DC - GW's Thomas Blankvoort (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles/International School of the Hague) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for men's golf, the league office has announced.
Blankvoort carded a five-under 67 for the second round which set a school record for most strokes below par in a single round. It was the best individual round in the tournament as the Colonials placed 12th in the 18-team Colonial Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary, March 25-26 at Williamsburg, VA.
Blankvoort's 67 was was the lowest round by a Colonial since Jay Randolph's 66 at the 1957 Southern Conference Championship at Danville (VA) Country Club. Blankvoort's bogey-free round featured five birdies and 13 pars, including a missed three-foot putt on the 17th green.
Blankvoort was the low Colonial for the eighth straight tournament with a one-over-par 145 (78-67) to finish in a three-way tie for seventh in the 36-hole event.
The Colonials combined for a 624 (315-309) at the par-72, 6,868-yard Green Course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Resort.
The Colonials' next competition will be in the Navy Spring Invitational, April. 6-7, at the Navy Golf Course in Annapolis, MD.
